GPR

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and
Multi-Channel GPR (MCGPR)

At 4Sight, we use advances Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to deliver high-precision mapping of underground utilities and subsurface features, without the need for excavation. GPR is an environmentally responsible approach that detects both conductive and non-conductive utilities, as well as natural subsurface conditions such as voids, groundwater, bedrock, and soil stratification.

By providing high‑confidence subsurface insight early in the project lifecycle, GPR significantly reduces uncertainty, shortens timelines, and minimizes costs. On large projects, this level of clarity can dramatically reduce the number of test holes required, minimizing ground disturbance, improving site safety and lowering the environmental footprint of SUE investigation activities.

Multi‑Channel Ground Penetrating Radar (MCGPR) systems enable rapid, high‑density subsurface scanning at roadway driving speeds. This allows entire corridors to be mapped with minimal lane closures and dramatically reduced traffic disruption. MCGPR can also be deployed as a pushcart, making it ideal for boulevards, urban areas, and off‑road environments. Both mobile and pushcart configurations use high‑density 18/8 multi‑array antennas to deliver detailed 3D subsurface datasets that support confident design and construction decisions.

Our traditional dual‑channel GPR systems use 400 MHz (deep penetration) and 800 MHz (high‑resolution) antennas with real‑time sampling. This combination provides the optimal balance of depth and clarity. All anomalies are marked onsite and fully integrated with survey data for accurate interpretation and alignment with project deliverables.

Additional Benefits

Our GPR technologies provide several advantages compared to conventional detection methods:

  • One of the most niche offerings in Canada - 4Sight is among the only two companies nationally equipped with this advanced MCGPR capability.
  • Non‑invasive and environmentally responsible - Fewer test holes, reduced water usage, and minimal soil disturbance.
  • Improved traffic and community impacts - Significantly fewer lane closures and reduced on‑site disruption.
  • Exceptional measurement accuracy - High confidence in vertical and horizontal utility positioning, improving utility alignments and reducing design risk.
  • Enhanced utility characterization - Ability to determine trench shapes and profiles, providing deeper insight into historical construction practices.
  • Rapid re‑mobilization - Once on site, additional areas can be scanned quickly if further information is needed.
  • Ideal for non‑conductive materials - Detects utilities and features that traditional methods (e.g., EMI locators) cannot identify.
  • Cost‑effective on large and linear projects - High‑density data replaces large quantities of isolated test pits.

Why Partner With 4Sight

Choosing the right subsurface investigation partner can significantly influence project risk, cost, and schedule. 4Sight stands out because we combine cutting‑edge technology with deep subsurface expertise and a project‑first approach.

What Sets 4Sight Apart

1. Technology Leadership
We invest in some of the most advanced GPR and MCGPR systems available in Canada, enabling faster data collection, higher accuracy, and broader detection capabilities than conventional firms.

2. Proven Experience on High‑Stakes Projects
Our team regularly supports municipal, transportation, utility, and large‑scale infrastructure projects where clarity, precision, and defensible data are non‑negotiable.

3. Integrated SUE Approach
Our findings are not delivered in isolation, we integrate subsurface data into the broader SUE process, coordinating closely with survey teams, designers, and project stakeholders to minimize risk and eliminate knowledge gaps.

4. Better Environmental and Community Outcomes
By reducing the need for invasive test holes and minimizing lane closures, we help clients achieve environmental objectives and reduce stakeholder disruption.

5. Decision‑Ready Deliverables
We produce clear, design‑usable outputs that streamline planning, engineering, and construction workflows, saving clients time and reducing costly rework.

6. Rapid Response and Scalable Field Teams
Whether it’s a small urban utility conflict or a multi‑kilometre corridor scan, we scale quickly and deliver information when it matters most.
